What is a Monitor?

A Monitor is a specific Application, Server, Service or Web URL. The performance of these Applications, Servers and Services are monitored on the basis of metrics like CPU Usage, Response Time etc.

Examples of monitors supported are Windows server monitor, WebLogic monitor, Oracle database monitor, service monitor, URL Sequence monitor, Apache monitor etc.

For eg., If you want to monitor 100 SQL Server installations in your network, the 100 SQL Servers will be considered as 100 monitors.

Consider the Apache web server that is used by www.appmanager.com. This monitor (Apache web server) may have 'N' number of performance metrics exposed. For info on what performance metrics you can see for an Apache Monitor, refer Apache Monitoring.

The total number of monitors, will include the monitors that we add by default. These default monitors will not be taken into account while calculating the number of monitors for Licensing.

What do you mean by number of users?

It is the number of users who will need to access the Product Web Client.

Why do I need an additional user license?

A multi user environment allows more than one user to simultaneously login to the Web Console. Additionally, you can make use of the various roles like 'Operator', 'Manager' and 'Read Only User' to have more control over - which users see what data.

How do I enable Monitor Add on(s)?

Monitor Add on comes bundled in the product itself (No separate download). After buying a monitor Add-on, for example - SAP Add on, if you apply the license, SAP Monitor will be enabled. Contact appmanager-support@manageengine.com for buying monitor Add-On. You can view the list of Add ons provided with Applications Manager here.

How many monitors can I use if I purchase Add-on?

For example, you have bought 25 monitor license and SAP monitor add-on, you can configure and monitor 25 number of SAP servers. SAP add-on is for enabling the SAP monitoring feature in Applications Manager.

Can I purchase a Perpetual License (a one-time payment License)?

Yes, you can buy Perpetual License instead of Annual Subscription. Please contact sales@manageengine.com to know more.

Does Annual Subscription fee cover Maintenance and Support?

Yes, Annual Subscription includes Maintenance and Support fee.

Does Annual Subscription fee include phone support?

Yes, Annual Subscription fee includes phone suppport.

Do I have to pay for Applications Manager database license?

No, Applications Manager comes bundled with a database. Hence you do not have to buy database license for using Applications Manager.

SAP Monitoring

Applications Manager's SAP monitor uses the SAP CCMS (Computer Center Management System) architecture to give insightful information about the SAP system. Critical metrics are available in real-time.
  • Background Processing - Monitor the status of Background processing in SAP System
  • Buffer - Monitor the utilization of SAP Buffer, and its hit and swap rates
  • Enqueue - Monitor the values of SAP Enqueue service
  • Operating System - Monitor the Operation System data
  • Spool - Monitor the utilization of Spool system
  • Dialog - Monitor the values of SAP Dialog system
  • Also you can view the SAP system errors comprising of ABAP dumps, Aborted Jobs, Update errors and any other Syslog errors. Ability to manage the generated SAP alarms is also provided. The SAP alarms can be completed from the Application Manager web console.

APM Insight .Net Agent

Applications Manager's APM Insight .Net Agent is equipped with following capabilities,
  • Isolate performance bottlenecks and drill down to the offending code.
  • Troubleshooting code latencies and pinpoint the root cause of issues.
  • Measure user satisfaction with Apdex scores.
  • Summarized database operations.
  • Trace individual business transactions.
  • Real-time visuals of CLR performance and health.
  • Proactive alerts.

APM Insight for Java Web Transaction

Applications Manager's APM Insight provides you with unmatched visibility into the way your business applications behave for your end users.
  • Applications Manager helps to better visualize J2EE Web Transactions end to end, with performance metrics of all components starting from URLs to SQL queries.
  • Identify and resolve performance degradation no matter where they originate. Measure user satisfaction with Apdex scores, transaction traces and performance metrics of Java/ J2EE components, EJB, and SQL statements executed by the URL can be traced.
  • Further, to identify bottlenecks in performance, a trail of the Java method invocations can be seen to identify the offending code.

IBM AS400/iSeries monitor

Applications Manager's IBM AS400/iSeries monitor enables you to manage and monitor your AS400 server's, availability and performance through an integrated web console.
  • With IBM AS400/iSeries monitor you ll be able to monitor status, pools, jobs messages, spools and more.

Oracle E-Business Suite Performance Monitor

Applications Manager's Oracle E-Business Suite Performance Monitor is equipped with following capabiities,
  • Out-of-the-box monitoring of Oracle EBS availability and performance.
  • Monitors performance statistics such as connection statistics, request statistics etc. Alarms can be configured for these parameters.
  • Based on the thresholds configured, notifications and alarms are generated. Actions are executed automatically based on configurations.
  • Performance graphs and reports are available instantly. Reports can be grouped and displayed based on availability, health, and connection time.

  • Out-of-the-box management of performance and availability of the Office SharePoint Server
  • Monitors MS Office SharePoint Server performance statistics such as OfficeSearch Gatherer, Excel Services Web Frontend, Memory Stats etc. alarms can be configured for these parameters.
  • Based on the thresholds configured, notifications and alarms are generated. Actions are executed automatically based on configurations.
  • Performance graphs and reports are available instantly. Grouping of reports, customized reports, and graphs based on date is available.

Siebel Server Monitor

Applications Manager's Siebel Server Monitor is equipped with following capabiities,
  • Out-of-the-box management of performance and availability of the Siebel Server.
  • Monitors the tasks and processes in the Siebel server, keeping the application up and running.
  • Fetches AOM-specific statistics, response time, reply size and think time.

What are Add-ons?

Applications Manager add-on features enable you to extend the capabilities of Application performance management to meet your business requirements.

All the add-ons are included as part of the product. You can use them for free during your evaluation period. Once the evaluation period is over, you can use only those add-ons that you have purchased.

How many monitors can I use if I purchase Add-on?

Add-ons are priced as a flat fee. You can monitor any number of resources as long as you are within the overall 'monitors' count.

For example, if you buy a 25 monitors license with SAP add-on, you can add any number of SAP monitors as long as the monitor count does not exceed 25.
